Summer 2026 Was One for the Books!

It’s been a busy summer here at the ACWL-Nuveen Center! On Friday, August 7th, we welcomed the community to join us for a reception celebrating all of the artists who participated in our annual community themed exhibit, Water Wonderland. We had a great turnout of artists and community members. Prizes were awarded in both the adult and youth categories. Thank you to the White Lake Community Fund of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County for sponsoring this exhibition and to all of the artists who participated in this year’s community show.
On Saturday, August 8th, in partnership with the White Lake Area Maritime Festival, we set up a children’s maritime-themed art project next to the Artisan Market in Montague. The hands-on art project involved spray bottles, paint and hair-dryers. It was a big hit among kids and parents. We loved hearing comments from parents like, “We could do this at home too!” because any day we can inspire families to spend time creating together is a good day! Thank you to our volunteers for manning the craft table!
You might have also seen us in the Marilyn Voss Garden for Sculpture that Saturday for our Sculpture Garden Shindig which was organized by the ACWL-Nuveen Art Walk Committee. We had live music by Eric Michaels and Chris Kennedy, hand-built pottery demonstrations by Kim Funk, rock painting with Art Walk committee member, Kim Baliant, a whimsical photo booth with artist, Art Walk and board member Kanda Parrott, and hands-on “plein air” sketching with the Urban Sketchers of West Michigan. Ann Rusky, a representative for the group gave an inspiring on-site plein air demo. The beautiful weather, friendly faces, live music and hands on art activities made for a wonderful Saturday in the White Lake area! This event would not have been possible without the help of our volunteers, the City of Montague, and event sponsor Double L Enterprises.
August also brought the last of our Free Summer Concert Series. It was a memorable season filled with music, dancing, crafts and community togetherness. Thank you to everyone who took part in our 40th season of free summer concerts. Our sponsors, volunteers and everyone who attended - we couldn’t have done it without you! If you attended any of our classes or events throughout the summer, you may have heard us mention our membership drive. Our goal was to get 40 members in honor of our 40th birthday. We ended the summer with 54 memberships! Memberships directly support arts programming throughout the White Lake area so thank you to all of our new and returning members!
