Beacons on the Shore Awards

This summer’s open community call for lighthouse-inspired artwork drew a great response! We had 41 community members of all ages drop off artwork which enabled us to mount a diverse and dynamic show. We celebrated all the artisans on Saturday, August 2 during a well-attended public reception and awards ceremony.  

The tough job of determining the award winners in the show fell on the shoulders of Site Manager for the White River Light Station, Sarah Johnston. Sarah, an artist herself, acknowledged the difficulty of narrowing down her choices from the talented pool and felt there were so many individuals worthy of acknowledgement.

Awards were given to the following in the adult and youth categories:

ACWL-Nuveen Adult Award – Eric Michaels – Sentinel - watercolor

Adult Honorable Mention – Julie Westmas – Village Light – fiber

                                                Jay Damiano – Mystical Lighthouse – acrylic    

                                                 Luis Sonsin – Northern Lights - watercolor

ACWL-Nuveen Youth Award – Amelia Liskey – Gannet Rock Lighthouse – acrylic

Youth Honorable Mention – Jovi Parrott – Untitled – acrylic

                                                 Nova Parrott – Fantastic Fantasy – acrylic

                                                 Odin Oquist – South Haven Lighthouse
