This summer, the ACWL-Nuveen is excited to showcase 18 talented visual artists hailing from across Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois who use music as their creative muse. Music – Op. 1 No. 4 - is on display now through July 20. At the exhibition reception on Friday, June 28, Montague-based artist Kanda Parrott was awarded the Concerto Prize for her piece Juicy in the Sky with Diamonds.
Our juror this year – Whitehall-based artist and musician Chester Winowiecki – was tasked with viewing all of the digital entries, selecting the final artwork for the show, and choosing the Concerto Award winner. Chester had this to say about his jurying experience:
“I am so glad to have been asked to jury this year’s Music Exhibit and sincerely hope that both artists and patrons will enjoy viewing my selections for this comprehensive show. Artists have submitted works that portray famous musicians, interpret or feature the lyrics of songs, are abstract representations of musical themes, depict the act of music making itself, and even allow for the making of music in the gallery. This variety is very important to me as I believe that Art is at its best when it challenges us or exposes us to views we are unfamiliar with. For this reason, I’d like to encourage everyone to seek out those pieces that may appear to be furthest from what they immediately gravitate toward; all these works have a lot more in common than they might appear."
