Lee Ann Frame is an artist many people in West Michigan are familiar with. A retired art instructor at Muskegon Community College, Lee Ann is recognized regionally and nationally for her exquisite printmaking which she has exhibited extensively. She also sells her prints at the Muskegon Museum of Art and and in our retail gallery at the ACWL-Nuveen. In 2024, Lee Ann started teaching two-day intensive printmaking classes at the ACWL-Nuveen, offering instruction in linocut and woodcut techniques. Her excellent teaching inspired a dedicated group of printmakers at the Arts Council who now meet on a regular basis to further their skills and use our printing press.
Because of the popularity of Lee Ann’s classes, students requested that she offer a longer form class that would allow individuals to really delve into a given topic. We are excited to announce that we are offering our first 3-week session with Lee Ann this April. Meeting on Thursdays, April 16, 23 and 30, students will explore white line woodblock printing for five hours during each class session. A technique developed in the early 1900's, this type of printing involves creating print compositions through the process of carving shapes and designs into a block of wood. Through the progression of carving, students will learn how to highlight their compositions with layered water-based colors. This class is open to both beginning and more experienced students, the extended time will allow for lots of creativity and skill-building.
As with all ACWL-Nuveen classes, all materials will be provided for this course. The cost to participate is $240. If that fee is out of reach, we do have 'pay-what-you-can' pricing available, thanks to the ACWL-Nuveen Scholarship Fund. Students who can't afford the $240 fee, can sign up and pay either $190 or $140 by entering a coupon code when registering, as explained in the class description. To register for the class, please visit White-line Woodcut or call (231) 893-2524.
