Young Voices Art Exhibition

For years we held our youth exhibition in the Spring in conjunction with our annual ACWL-Nuveen Juried Exhibit. Because of the growth of both the Juried Exhibit and the youth show we moved the younger artists to their own timeslot. After consulting with MAISD teachers we decided to discontinue our annual Fall Into the Arts exhibition and dedicate those dates to the Young Voices Youth Art Exhibition – November 3 – December 19.
We were so pleased with the response to the show! We received 76 diverse original works of art from kids aged 5 – 18. The exhibit is a showcase of different mediums, techniques and personal expressions. To sort through all the entries and determine awards we asked the Curator of Education at the Muskegon Museum of Art, Heather Placko. Heather is well-versed in kids’ art with over 15 years of experience in museum education plus she has overseen the MMA’s MAISD’s Expressions show for years. Heather stopped by the ACWL-Nuveen on Wednesday to spend time with the artwork and determine cash awards in the following categories – K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. She was clearly impressed with the talent on display and had this to say about the show, “Kids are amazing – students of any age astound me! It is imperative to let them create because I believe that everyone can make great art!"
We will be hosting a free reception for all the participating artists on Saturday, November 14 from 1:00pm – 3:00pm. ACWL-Nuveen Director Erin Peyer will be handing out awards starting at 1:30pm and as per usual we will be serving snacks! Many thanks to our generous sponsors for the Young Voices Youth Art Exhibition, Laura Schultz and Shelby State Bank. We are grateful for your support of these amazing young artists!
