Art Inspired by Music

Updated: Jun 14, 2024

Music: Op. 1 No.4 Juror Chester Winowiecki

This summer the ACWL-Nuveen is excited to showcase 19 talented visual artists hailing from across Michigan, Indiana and Illinois, who use music as their creative muse. Music – Op. 1 No. 4  - on display June 14 – July 20 – was advertised as a juried call for artists who live in the Lake Michigan region. Our juror this year – Whitehall based artist and musician Chester Winowiecki – was tasked with viewing all of the digital entries and selecting the final artwork for the show. Chester had this to say about his jurying experience:

“I am so glad to have been asked to jury this year’s Music Exhibit and sincerely hope that both artists and patrons will enjoy viewing my selections for this comprehensive show. Artists have submitted works that portray famous musicians, interpret or feature the lyrics of songs, are abstract representations of musical themes, depict the act of music making itself, and even allow for the making of music in the gallery. This variety is very important to me as I believe that Art is at its best when it challenges us or exposes us to views we are unfamiliar with. For this reason, I’d like to encourage everyone to seek out those pieces that may appear to be furthest from what they immediately gravitate toward; all these works have a lot more in common than they might appear.

To all the artists who submitted work for this show, I want to say thank you for trusting in the process and sharing your personal vision of music. I took something positive from every piece I viewed whether I selected it for inclusion or not and the experience will influence my own art in the future. Thanks for making this great show possible!”
