ACWL-Nuveen Receives $20,000 in State Grant Funding for 2026

In the fall of 2025, arts and culture organizations across Michigan were unsure whether the typical state grants offered by the Michigan Arts & Culture Council (MACC) would be awarded. Luckily, Michiganders made their voices heard and urged their legislators to keep that funding intact, and they did! This uncertainty, however, did shift the typical timeline for the grant deadline and award announcement. While grant awards for the upcoming year are normally announced once the state budget is passed in September or October, organizations didn’t find out until the end of February – two months into the new year - if they would be receiving state grant support for 2026.

Thankfully, the Arts Council of White Lake-Nuveen Center’s (ACWL-Nuveen) grant application for mission support was well received and MACC awarded $20,000 to help fund our 2026 programming. These funds will assist the ACWL-Nuveen in covering costs for daily operations and support our multi-generational community arts programming. The award not only helps to sustain the ACWL-Nuveen - it also aids in the growth of the White Lake area economy and contributes to the overall quality of life. We are very grateful for the grant support and will use it to fund our mission of inspiring the White Lake community through accessible and engaging opportunities in the arts. Thank you to everyone who reached out to the legislators in support of arts and culture!

MACC, which is made up of 14 members appointed by the Governor, is the state’s lead agency charged with developing arts and cultural policy and grant-making. According to www.michiganbusiness.org, grants are awarded to, “ensure that Michigan communities thrive from the civic, economic, and educational benefits of arts and culture.”

The ACWL-Nuveen would like to extend our thanks to Governor Whitmer, our legislators Curtis VanderWall and Jon Bumstead, the MACC and our enthusiastic and supportive White Lake community. This grant award is essential to all we do. To learn more about the ACWL-Nuveen, our upcoming programs, and classes for kids and adults, please visit www.artswhitelake.org  or stop by the gallery in downtown Whitehall at 106 E.
