Class Description

Ages 16+ $170, $153 for ACWL Members Pay-what-you-can: $90 with Woocut90 coupon code Woodcut, one of the oldest forms of printmaking, brings particular possibilities and challenges. We will work from concept to execution. You will develop your ideas, working abstractly, representational imagery or symbolic. Using Shina wood, you will learn proper carving, registration, paper preparation and inking techniques. Color will be added to the black and white print with watercolor. Various papers, inks, brayers, watercolors and brushes will be supplied. Bring your ideas sketched out in line. The block size is 6” X 8” Some famous American woodcut artists for inspiration; Arthur Wesley Dow, Gustave Baumann, Margaret Patterson, William Seltzer Rice, Frances Hammell Gearhart, Edna Boies Hopkins, Eliza Draper Gardiner, and J. B Nordfedt. All materials are provided. This class is appropriate for beginning and advanced students. There will be a break for lunch. Feel free to bring a bag lunch or plan to run across the street to Subway or Wesco! About the Instructor: Lee Ann Frame currently lives and works as a printmaker and educator near the shores of  Lake MI.  Frame is an instructor at Muskegon Community College, and owner of of Norris Creek Printmaking Studio. https://leeannframe.com/home.html She is a member of the Boston Printmakers, Society of American Graphic Artists, Zea Mays, Florence, Massachusetts, Mid American Print Council,  South West Michigan Printmakers, Nautilus member of the International Society of  Experimental Artists. ACWL-Nuveen classes are supported by the White Lake Community Fund of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County, CatchMark Technologies, Michigan Arts & Culture Council, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Nuveen Benevolent Trust.

Please note - Registration for classes is required, unless otherwise noted. You may register online, by calling (231) 893-2524 or visiting the ACWL-Nuveen. Please enroll in classes at least 48 hours before the scheduled class time. Courses cancelled due to insufficient enrollment will be 100% refunded. You can cancel your registration up to 3 days in advance of the class date. If you withdraw from a class less than 3 days before the class, you will be given a class credit.
