Class Description

Ages 16+ $10, $9 for ACWL Members Join us to explore how personal photographs can be used as a narrative tool within your studio practice. Participants will create a color or compositional study with guest artist and instructor Amelia Mendelsohn. Please bring a personal photograph to use in the class, or email an image to nuveen@artswhitelake.org to have it printed out before the class. Class minimum:4 Class maximum: 10 About the Instructor: Amelia Mendelsohn is an educator and artist based in Michigan, where she teaches courses in painting and drawing at Hope College. She received her BA in Studio Art and Art History from Sweet Briar College and her MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Notre Dame. She has taught as an Instructor of Record at the University of Notre Dame and as an Assistant Professor of Art Instruction at Hope College. Her work has been exhibited in various museums and galleries, including the South Bend Museum of Art, the Kalamazoo Institute of Art, FKM Gallery, and the De Pree Art Center & Gallery. Her paintings are part of the permanent collection at the South Bend Museum of Art, and in 2025 she was awarded the Harry D. Forsyth Fellowship at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. This class and the Steady Gaze exhibition are supported by the Howmet Aerospace Foundation.

Cancellation Policy

Please note - Registration for classes is required, unless otherwise noted. You may register online, by calling (231) 893-2524 or visiting the ACWL-Nuveen. Please enroll in classes at least 48 hours before the scheduled class time. Courses cancelled due to insufficient enrollment will be 100% refunded. You can cancel your registration up to 3 days in advance of the class date. If you withdraw from a class less than 3 days before the class, you will be given a class credit.
