Class Description

Ages 12+ $10, $9 for ACWL Members Because their impact was felt primarily in music, no books specifically dedicated to The Beatles and their relationship with the art world of the 1960s exists. In this compelling and meticulously researched visual presentation, Denise Laurin, M.A. art history and life-long Beatlemaniac, takes a rare look at the artistic thread that runs through their story. Denise will connect the dots between film, fashion, drug culture, activism, spirituality and art movements such as pop, psychedelic, and conceptual art with the Fab Four. The presentation includes carefully curated slides, video and sound. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their favorite 1960s attire! About the Presenter: Denise Laurin is an artist, art historian and speaker. A contemporary realist, she works in traditional media including oil, pastel, and charcoal. Denise sees life through art and believes it plays an integral role which has been marginalized in today’s society. To engender a deep love and understanding of art, she develops and presents a variety of art-related topics as part of her art practice. Denise holds a B.A. in Studio Art and Art History and an M.A. in Art History from Northern Illinois University. She has studied at The Art Institute of Chicago and the New York Academy of Art. She taught art history, design, and drawing on the college level for twenty years at the Illinois Institute of Art/Chicago, The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Elgin Community College and Waubonsee Community College. While living in New York City, she taught art at The Beekman School, a private Manhattan high school. Before launching her fine art career, Denise owned a graphic design firm and was named Woman of the Year by Women in Design/ Chicago. She has been recognized as an advanced speaker by Toastmasters International. Her work and presentation schedule can be viewed at www.deniselaurinvisualart.com. This lecture is supported by the White Lake Community Fund of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County.
