Class Description

Ages 16+ $35, $31.50 for ACWL Members Tatakizome is the Japanese term for flower pounding, the botanical printing technique of printing on paper or fabric with foliage using a hammer (or a rock). Using this technique, students will create a set of four greeting cards - or a frameable 8" x10" piece - utilizing fresh flowers, leaves and hammers. No experience necessary. Class minimum:4 Class maximum: 10 About the Instructor: Sue Bromm is a Fiber Artist who uses techniques of botanical printing and hand embroidery to create pieces that honor Mother Earth. In exploring and foraging for printing materials, Sue meets many plants with beautiful leaves and flowers. These, she utilizes for dyeing and printing scarves, pillows, table runners, mounted prints and more. Sue is also cultivating herb and flower gardens. Creating this way gives her a sense of Place and grounds her work. Sue's hope is that her work enables people to learn to enjoy the “common” foliage around them. ACWL-Nuveen classes are supported by the White Lake Community Fund of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County, CatchMark Technologies, Michigan Arts & Culture Council, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Nuveen Benevolent Trust.
