About the event

Learn the basics of painting with acrylics with local artist Missy Morrow!

On day one, Missy will do a brief demo and discuss her supplies, set up and work process including:

- How to use a Sta-wet palette so that the paint doesn't dry out on the palette

- Simple brush techniques

- Simple color blending tips

- Paint background of your painting

On day two, participants will:

- Trace the image onto the dry painted background

- Finish working on the final painting with help from Missy

Students get to pick the subject matter! Suggestions include: a favorite pet, flowers, any old barn, the lake; basically any image that you want to work with. Email a digital copy of your image to nuveen@artswhitelake.org prior to class and we will resize to the canvas size of 12"x12" or 16"x20" vertical or horizontal based on you choice.

This class will meet on Wednesday, March 9 and Thursday, March 10 from 10am - 12pm. Your registration fee includes all supplies, along with a set of 21 ml Blick Studio Acrylics in 12 colors for you to take home!

About the Instructor:

Missy Morrow studied chemistry at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI and went on to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration from Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, MI. A resident of Whitehall, Missy works representationally in acrylic paint, depicting birds, flowers, and recreational subjects such as bicycles, sailboats, or a cup of tea.  Her paintings set up whimsical scenes that tell stories and capture pleasant moments, refreshing and uplifting the viewer. Her acrylic work has recently been displayed in exhibitions at the Grand Rapids Arts Museum, the Holland Arts Council, and the Muskegon Museum of Art.
