First Fridays: An Origin Exhibit Reception

Friday, February 7

Join us for our February First Fridays event, celebrating the opening of Ann Kraus's photo exhibit 'An Origin'

Ann Kraus, who grew up in the White Lake area, recently returned to Whitehall after living out of state for 17 years. The exhibit at the ACWL-Nuveen is providing a unique opportunity for Ann to showcase how she got started as both an artist and an explorer. Ann’s passion for photography started in an art class taught by Laurel Geis at Montague High School. Her love of travel blossomed at this time as well when she participated in a Montague-Whitehall Rotary Club’s summer short exchange program, living with a family in Japan for a month. This exhibit includes photos that Ann took in 1998 while she was attending Montague High School and from her travels to Japan in both 1998 and 2019 when she completed a 275 solo trek across the island of Kyushu, Japan. Ann states about the exhibit, “An origin is not a monument, a place fixed in history, from which all that will spring has already sprung. It is ever changing as a person is, a constructed vivid memory, a place where any story can begin.”

Refreshments will be served and Ann will be in attendance to answer your questions and share her experiences with guests.
