
Klimt-inspired Acrylic & Gold Leaf
Using Gustav Klimt as inspiration, students will create an acrylic painting enhanced by gold leaf

Class Description
Ages 16+ $130, $117 for ACWL Members Pay-what-you-can: $75 with Gold75 In this workshop, participants will create an acrylic painting inspired by the work of Gustav Klimt. Paintings will be done on an 8 x 10 black canvas. While the acrylic dries, Denise will demonstrate gold leaf technique. Students will then randomly apply quick-dry gold size, which is necessary to adhere gold leaf to your piece. During the 30 minutes it takes to dry, Denise will give a brief presentation on Gustav Klimt. The remainder of class time will be spent adding gold leaf and sealing. A contemporary realist, she works in traditional media including oil, pastel, and charcoal. Denise sees life through art and believes it plays an integral role which has been marginalized in today’s society. To engender a deep love and understanding of art, she develops and presents a variety of art-related topics as part of her art practice. Denise holds a B.A. in Studio Art and Art History and an M.A. in Art History from Northern Illinois University. She has studied at The Art Institute of Chicago and the New York Academy of Art. She taught art history, design, and drawing on the college level for twenty years at the Illinois Institute of Art/Chicago, The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Elgin Community College and Waubonsee Community College. While living in New York City, she taught art at The Beekman School, a private Manhattan high school. Before launching her fine art career, Denise owned a graphic design firm and was named Woman of the Year by Women in Design/ Chicago. Please note - Registration for classes is required, unless otherwise noted. You may register online, by calling (231) 893-2524 or visiting the ACWL-Nuveen. Please enroll in classes at least 48 hours before the scheduled class time. Courses cancelled due to insufficient enrollment will be 100% refunded. You can cancel your registration up to 3 days in advance of the class date. If you withdraw from a class less than 3 days before the class, you will be given a class credit.
