"There is Only One King" by Kris Jordahl

Chair location: ACWL-Nuveen

Artist Kris Jordahl has this to say about the piece: "Since I am not an artist, I’ll give you some background on why I chose this theme for my chair. I grew up listening to Elvis Presley and have such strong memories of singing his songs with my dad and watching him try to replicate his dance moves and play the guitar. He told me stories of being stationed in Germany at the same time as Elvis while they were both in the Army. I was born 9 months after Elvis’s daughter, and we share the same middle name ( while I think that was planned…my dad will never admit to it!) And the first time I saw my father cry was the day that Elvis died. Although he was disappointed in some of the choices that Elvis made, we never stopped listening to the songs and appreciating the impact that they had on music as well as our relationship. In fact, one of the best days of my life was when I surprised my dad with a trip to Graceland. Now 86, my father has been in declining health and this chair is a way to pay tribute to him and the man whose music has always kept us connected."

“There have been pretenders. And there have been contenders. But there is only one king.”

Bruce Springsteen
