About the event

Create a fabulous, permanent image on a zippered throw pillow cover using found objects and the sun!

We will use light sensitive dyes, in your choice of colors, to create an image on the cotton fabric using sunlight. Suitable objects include leaves and flowers, lace, flat objects, stencils, and even computer printouts on transparency film. Standard size throw pillow covers will be provided, but not the pillow form. Detailed information will be provided upon registration so you can gather objects or create stencils. Suitable for any skill level, this is considered an adult class because of the chemicals, but older children may work with an adult.

Class minimum: 4 students

Class maximum: 10 students

About the Instructor:

Laurel Geis has lived in the White Lake area for 27 years. She taught Art in public schools for 30 years before retiring. She is an active artist, working primarily in painting and drawing, and her work has been widely exhibited in sites like the Muskegon Museum of Art and the White River Gallery. Her work frequently includes landscape or environmental themes.

COVID-19 Considerations:

This class will be held outdoors at the ACWL-Nuveen Artisan Market. Rain date is Saturday, July 17. If the weather doesn't look good for July 10, we will notify you by 5:00 on Friday, July 9 that we will be moving to our rain date of July 17. Each student will have their own supplies that will be sanitized before class. Students should wear masks and abide by social distancing mandates.

ACWL-Nuveen art classes are supported by grants from the Nuveen Benevolent Trust, the Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.
