About the event

In this two-session class, step into the world of traditional craftsmanship with our hands-on class on handmade rawhide rattles. Rawhide rattles are an instrument of storytelling, ceremony, historic culture, and artistic expressions. In this class, you'll learn the ancient art of crafting rawhide rattles from scratch, connecting with tradition and creativity in a meaningful way.

As you work on your rattle, you'll be guided through each step of the crafting process and learn the fundamentals of creating a well-crafted rattle. You’ll begin by exploring the materials and tools used in rawhide rattle making. You’ll learn the process of selecting, shaping and stitching the rawhide. You'll have the opportunity to experiment with different designs, decorations, and fillings. You are encouraged to bring any items you wish to incorporate into your rattle allowing you to personalize your rattle and infuse it with your own creativity and intention.

By the end of the class, you'll have created a unique rawhide rattle that reflects both tradition and individual expression. This class offers a space to connect with the ancient art of rawhide rattle making, honor tradition, and create something truly special with your own hands. Join us on this journey of craftsmanship and discovery as we celebrate the beauty and significance of rawhide rattles.
