About the event
In this class we will explore how to apply dyes to fabric with shaving cream to create beautiful marble effects. In the process, students will see the effects of the dyes and how they stay separated on the surface of the fabric. Acrylic based dyes are used, along with shaving cream, and wooden skewers to create beautiful marbled swirls and textures. The finished fabric can be used as a framed wall piece or in a sewing project
Class minimum: 4
Class maximum: 10
About the Instructor:
Julie Westmaas’ love of fabric and fiber arts began around the age of eight with her grandmother’s embroidery hoop, and she later learned to sew in her early teens. Sewing became a passion and inspired a lifelong interest in fiber arts. Westmaas studied art at Grand Rapids Community College and Grand Valley State University. In her classes, Westmaas studied photography, painting, and batik, but realized that fiber arts are her preferred way to express her creativity. With fabrics, threads, paints, inks, dyes, yarn, ribbon, and trim pieces, the ideas are always endless.
