Open Studio: Real/Surreal Hands

This is a special open studio class for middle and high schoolers! Laurel Geis will show students how to combine photographs and drawing to create a mixed media work based on the work of MC Escher. Limited to 10 students - registration is required.

About the event
Based on the famous image of drawing hands by M C Escher, we will combine photographs and drawing to create a mixed media work. Have fun creating a real/surreal work, as you extend the photographic image of your own hands drawing. We will learn some drawing techniques, as we shade around the hand photos to make the artwork look three dimensional. You will incorporate creative drawing as you fill in around you hands and complete the image.
About the Instructor:
Laurel Geis has lived in the White Lake area for 28 years. She taught Art in public schools for 30 years before retiring. She is an active artist, working primarily in painting and drawing, and her work has been widely exhibited in sites like the Muskegon Museum of Art and the White River Gallery. Her work frequently includes landscape or environmental themes.
