About the event

This class will focus on the importance of using line to capture a quick nature sketch.  We will be using a simple, lightweight set up and be sketching at several locations. Students will learn how to use different line sketching techniques such as hatching, continuous , weighted and broken lines to create expressive studies of the subject matter all around us.

Class will begin with a brief talk about Meinert Park and the Flower Creek Nature Preserve from a Land Conservancy of West Michigan Representative. https://naturenearby.org/ MJ will then give a quick demonstration, followed by suggestions on how to format a composition. Participants will then be able to wander off to sketch locations of their choice. We will gather at the end of class for a show and tell and Q&A. A sketchbook, water soluble pen, a water brush, a cardboard clipboard, and palette will be provided for use during the class. The sketchbook will be yours to keep!

The ACWL-Nuveen will also take care of paying for parking at the park. We will be parking at the lot closest to the beach. Visit this webpage to view a map: https://www.artswhitelake.org/meinertpark
