About the event

Students will learn the basics of etched copper jewelry and complete several pairs of earrings and pendants creating a one-of-a-kind ensemble they can wear or give as a gift. They will learn how to draw patterns on their metal pieces employing the use of geometry, abstraction, or realistic drawings. Instructor, Casey Bemis will guide students through the use of patinas after the pieces are etched to give their jewelry a distinctive finish.

About the Instructor:

Casey Bemis has lived in the Whitehall area for 13 years now, working in her studio in the quiet woods just a few miles from Lake Michigan. Much of the work is inspired by nature, geometry and science. Utilizing her undergraduate degree in painting, she draws directly on sheets of metal to be etched and then made into unique jewelry. She also paints and finds some time to work on several novels.

ACWL-Nuveen classes are supported in part by CatchMark Technologies, Michigan Arts & Culture Council, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Nuveen Benevolent Trust.
