Turmeric Sun Prints

Class Description

Ages 12+ $30, $27 for ACWL Members Students will learn how to make prints using found natural materials, turmeric and the sun. This class will include a walk to Lions Park to gather subjects to print and a mini history lesson with examples of a traditional cyanotype print vs. turmeric prints. A chemical-free process, this type of sun printing is safer and better for the earth. Students will take home at least 3 unique prints! Accessibility note: Students will walk to Lions Park to gather natural materials to print. Lions Park is located behind the ACWL-Nuveen and requires walking down Hanson Hill via a large set of stairs, and crossing Hanson St. If you are unable to walk to Lions Park, simply let ACWL-Nuveen staff know. You will be able to drive down to the park or we will make sure we have some found natural materials in the classroom for you to choose from. Class minimum:4 Class maximum: 10 About the Instructor: Raelynn Jewison currently teaches art at the Homeschool Program and Duck Creek in Whitehall, MI. She has also taught art at Olathe East High School and Muskegon High School. She received a degree in Art Education at Central Michigan University. Raelynn has been an art educator for seven years and has experience teaching ceramics, fibers, photography, drawing, painting, digital art, and mixed media to small and large groups of all ages. Her work has been displayed at several galleries, exhibitions, and festivals. Her artistic passion is using ceramics in traditional and innovative ways combining natural materials with found objects to create mixed media works such as installations, sculptures, and functional pieces.
