"Imagine" by Alice Gambel
Chair location: ACWL-Nuveen
Artist Alice Gambel has this to say about the piece: "As a child learning to play piano and read music, I was taught to clap the notes in a rhythm based on the length of a note. The white bars on the back of the chair visually represent the rhythm of the first four measures of the song 'Pure Imagination' by Leslie Bricusse from the musical, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971). Their width represents the half, quarter, dotted quarter and eighth notes in the four measures. The spaces in the white lines represent the distance each note is from the other. The lyrics to these measures are: 'Come with me and you’ll be in a world of pure imagination!'"
