Calling all artists, creatives, inventors and DIY experimenters – we need you! We have 27 very cool mid-century chairs from the historic Sylvan Beach Wabaningo Club that we will be auctioning off during ACWL-Nuveen’s summer 2022 fundraiser. We are seeking creatives to transform a chair using a music theme. The “musical chairs” will be on display and auctioned off during our annual summer Music exhibition June 3 – July 30. All funds received will go back to the community via the ACWL-Nuveen’s accessible, engaging, and inclusive arts programming.
Why are we recruiting artists now? Well, the chairs were purchased by Fundraising Committee “Chair” Alice Gambel this summer during the Wabaningo Club’s Rummage Sale. The Wabaningo Club graciously agreed to store them for us until October, so we need to distribute the chairs to our creative community members between October 19 – October 30. This means you will have the winter months to live with the chair and be inspired!

We loved the theme of “musical chairs”- there is SO much potential! Are you inspired by music when you paint? If so, how does this manifest – through color and abstraction? Is it the music of nature - the sound of bird song - wind rustling through the trees? Can the chair be transformed into a musical instrument? What about a tribute to famous musicians like “Chairman of the Board” Frank Sinatra? And of course, we can’t help but think about the talented musicians in our Free Summer Concert series... What about a 60’s themed Magic Bus chair?! The possibilities are limitless!
The chairs!
