Artists Selected for Light Station Plein Air Painting Competition

Artists from across the state will be converging on the White River Light Station for an exciting new event: the Light Station Plein Air Painting Competition on Friday, July 22, 2022. The chosen artists will have three hours to complete an outdoor painting that will then be displayed in the light station exhibition space July 23 through August 27. Visitors to the White River Light Station, as well as followers of their and the ACWL-Nuveen's social media pages, will be able to vote for their favorite piece. The 1st place winner will receive an overnight stay for themselves and a guest at the Big Sable Point Lighthouse apartment in Ludington, while the 2nd place winner will earn two adult non-expiring passes for all four lighthouses maintained by the Sable Point Lighthouse Keepers Association, and 3rd place will be awarded assorted plein air art supplies.


While artists had to apply to be a part of this competition, the general public is invited to come out between 9am and 12pm on Friday, July 22 to view the painters at work! CatchMark Technologies will also be on hand to document the event. The participating artists include the following:
