Each year the Arts Council of White Lake-Nuveen Center (ACWL-Nuveen) hosts Fall Into the Arts, a themed youth art exhibition featuring work from area school art programs. This year’s exhibit, which has been generously sponsored by Ferguson Family Dentistry, opens on Friday, November 4, with a reception for the public to be held on Saturday, November 5 at 1:00 pm. This year's show explores the theme Dreamscapes and features artwork from the ACWL-Nuveen Open Studio Program, Montague High School, Oehrli Elementary School, Reeths-Puffer High School, and Whitehall Middle School. Also on display is artwork created by the ACWL-Nuveen 2022 Emerging Artist of Color Resident, Elijah Pierce. Elijah, a junior at Orchard View High School, completed a three week funded residency at the ACWL-Nuveen in August concentrating on the creation of new artwork for his portfolio. Funded by a grant from the Youth Advisory Council of the Community Foundation, Elijah also received guided mentorship during his residency from artists Tatsuki Hakoyama and Lester White.
The Fall into the Arts exhibition also serves as a fundraiser for the participating schools' art programs. We will be collecting donations in the ACWL-Nuveen gallery, as well as online, through our website. Donations will be collected by the ACWL-Nuveen and distributed to the art programs following the close of the exhibition.
This year’s theme, Dreamscapes, was selected as a prompt for students to launch their imaginations. For artists involved in the Surrealist movement of the early 20th century, dreams provided a rich, whimsical & quirky, source material for painting, sculpture, collage, and mixed-media artwork. Dreams and dreamscapes are truly unique to each individual and therefore require a personal approach to artistic expression. Each of the artworks in this year's FITA exhibit is an outstanding example of individual expression. The young artists have made their unique statements through the skillful use of concept combined with various art mediums. Kudos to all of the student artists and the teachers who guided them!
We invite you to join us for the opening reception on Saturday, November 5 from
1:00 – 3:00 p.m. If you can’t make it to the opening, Fall into the Arts: Dreamscapes will be
on display in the ACWL-Nuveen exhibit space from November 5 through December 17. The gallery is located at 106 E. Colby St., Whitehall, and is open Tuesday - Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
