About the event

Many landscape painters have worked directly from nature, but include much more than just what they see. In this class we will work from the local landscape, but not be tied to just a direct image. We will consider the sounds, smells, light, weather, how we feel. The class will include instruction in the use of a variety of painting and drawing materials. Students can expect to finish a number of sketches as well as a finished work.

About the Instructor:

Laurel Geis has lived in the White Lake area for 27 years. She taught Art in public schools for 30 years before retiring. She is an active artist, working primarily in painting and drawing, and her work has been widely exhibited in sites like the Muskegon Museum of Art and the White River Gallery. Her work frequently includes landscape or environmental themes.

COVID-19 Considerations:

Classes will be held outdoors - weather permitting - under a tent with 6 feet between tables. Students will be seated on either ends of the tables - 6 feet apart. If class has to be held inside, we will make sure students can be six feet apart. Class capacity will be limited to 6 students. Each student will have their own supplies that will be sanitized before class. Students should wear masks and abide by social distancing mandates.

Summer Art Camps are supported by an anonymous donor and grants from the Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.
