Intro to Painting: Iconic White Lake Landscapes

Learn how to paint from one of three photographic images of iconic landscape scenes from the White Lake area. The shoreline at Duck Lake State Park, the White River Light Station or an image of a classic red barn on M80. (View images here). Students will make their image selection prior to class and instructor, Casey Bemis, will make a preliminary sketch on either a 12”x 12” or 10” x 20” canvas. The initial sketch will lay the groundwork for a strong composition and successful painting. In class, students will learn how to mix and apply acrylic paint to their prepared canvases to complete their landscape painting. Even though students may be painting the same image, each student’s painting will reflect the maker and be uniquely their own.

About the Instructor:

Casey Bemis is a multi-tasking artist that loves to share all kinds of art-related stuff with students. A graduate from Chicago Art Institute, Casey runs a studio just south of Whitehall year round, painting, drawing and even quilting. Color and texture are key components to her body of work as is observing nature in its abstract form.

COVID-19 Considerations:

Class size is limited to 6 students. Each student will get their own table which will be 6 ft from the neighboring tables. Students will have their own set of supplies that will be sanitized before class. Students should wear masks, use the provided hand sanitizer, and abide by social distancing mandates.
