About the event

This a great first time ceramics class for any kid interested in clay, and their parent! Using hand building techniques like pinching, coiling, slip-scoring and  then glazing, your little ones will get to create their own unique "creatures".  Parents will get into the action by building a habitat for your student's clay creature!

Students will need to pick up their finished piece following a final glaze firing that will happen AFTER the final class. Students will be notified when their pieces are ready for pick up.

Minimum: 4 sets

Maximum: 5 sets

A Note about the Class Fee

The cost to run a clay class is more than most ACWL-Nuveen classes due to the time and literal energy it takes to fire the kilns. However, if the $60 class fee is prohibitive, please reach out to nuveen@artswhitelake.org and we will do whatever we can to make this class accessible to you!

About the Instructor:

Like many great love stories, Kim’s love for ceramics began in high school. She loved the limitless dynamics of the art form, and it’s been her passion ever since. Recently,  she’s been apprenticing with Peter "The Potter" Johnson, the local master potter working at Terrestrial Forming in Whitehall. She’s now excited to begin her own journey creating and teaching pottery to other art lovers.

ACWL-Nuveen classes are supported in part by grants from the Michigan Arts & Culture Council, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Nuveen Benevolent Trust.
